I speak with Dr. Peter Joseph, an emergency physician
trained by Al Gore to educate the public about global warming
as a Climate Reality Project presenter.
Peter Joseph attended Columbia University, majoring in Biology, and The University of Michigan Medical School, earning Board Certification in Internal Medicine.
He began practicing Emergency Medicine in 1977, joined the clinical faculty at Stanford, UCSF and Highland Hospital, and from 1983 to 2011 was an Emergency Physician at Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley. There he served for 15 years as Chair of the Emergency Department and was active in the development of their successful Trauma Center.
In 1979, just after Three Mile Island nuclear accident, he co-founded the San Francisco Bay Area chapter of Physicians for Social Responsibility, an organization of doctors dedicated to educating the public and world leaders about the horrendous medical consequences of nuclear war. He served as president of the chapter and on the National Board of Directors for 6 years, helping to start chapters in California and New York. PSR later participated in the 1985 Nobel Peace Prize as the US affiliate of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War.
Dr. Joseph came to Ukiah on April 23, invited by Transition Towns,
to review science data and technical and political aspects of climate change.
